2020 is the year to fall in love with online groups. Falling in love requires time, commitment and going in with your eyes open. So … how can you fall in love with running an online group when you dread the thought of doing it?

  1. The first thing is to explore the WHY – why aren’t you running an online group? There are many reasons why women have trouble getting started with their online groups, including visibility, technology, time and not being absolutely sure of what to do or how to do it! Just like dating – it can be scary to make the first move and putting yourself out there –  you’ve got to make the decision to give it a try and do something different!
  2. Just like dating we tell ourselves – “there are so many online groups out there already – how can I be found, make any difference or even get started?” It’s a bit like when you are single and thinking “I’ll never find anyone- there’s too many women out there already looking and my ideal partner will never find me”
  3. You’ve tried before and it didn’t work – you might have played around with the thought of running an online group but didn’t really get it off the ground. You gave up before you had a chance of even giving it a go! How many times have you almost gone out with someone but decided “no” because they didn’t 100%  fit your criteria of what you wanted or you decided, at the last minute, that you weren’t  quite ready to commit to a new relationship? Running a successful online group requires a “yes”  – you do need to jump in and start, even if it “isn’t perfect” or “you don’t feel 100% ready”.

If you were looking for a partner, in this day and age you would need to decide how you would find them. You’d ask yourself – where would my ideal partner hang out? And the answer will probably include some sort of online presence – whether it was a dating app, social media, online forums or “all of the above!” It is the same with online groups – if you want to run an online group you need to decide where online you will do it, what social media you will use and what other avenues you can tap into!

Dating often includes the input of friends – you hang out and discuss your dating adventures and give each other feedback about what is working and what isn’t. It’s the same with getting your online group up and running – you need a group of friends to hang out with and to share your story with.
